The Never Ending Train Journey!

First off let us say that we are deeply impressed with the Indian train system. We were in class 3A which is what it seems middle class Indians use and it was lush! We both had soft-ish beds, it was clean and tidy and the train staff were always coming round with cups of chai, snacks or meals you could buy very cheaply!

The train set off and you would have heard us exclaim "well it's all going tremendously to plan, we'll be in Amritsar by this evening!" however things didn't quite go to plan...

14 hours later we were in the pitch black standing still on the tracks, when we should have arrived in Armitsar 2 hours before! There was a problem with the track so they seemed to be re-laying it before we could then go over it!

A further 10 hours later we arrive at Armitsar. We had been diverted to the North so we could enter Armitsar from the other side as the tracks from the South were broken. Overall it wasn't that bad at all, we actually quite enjoyed it. K finished her book and J made two more friends! We also got to see a lot of India outside the window (a mouse slept on J's friend's blanket, never seen than before!)

So we're here and the hotel is wonderful, with a beautiful courtyard garden and WIFI! We're off to see the Pakistan-Indian border patrols and the Sikh Golden Temple tomorrow. As it's Divali coming up we're playing with the idea of staying here for that! We'll see...

Hope you're all good, loadsa love K and J xx

  1. This blogging really works! Great to hear how your trip's going, you've seen so much already! Personally I reckon you paid the train company to make your journey more exciting, and to beat the experience I had that time coming back from Brixton! (you remember .. Brixton ... ?!)
