Over the last few days....

Hola everyone,

I hope this update finds everyone well! We are now into our 2nd week in the Galapagos Islands. We have said goodbye to Reena this morning, who is sadly on her way back home but it was great to have her out here with us, we had muchos funos! (Excuse the poor Spanish!)

Over the last few days we have been seeing more of the Islands and did a bike tour of Santa Cruz island. This took us around the sunken volcanic crators in the highland areas, down to a giant toitoise reserve and then onto some lava tunnels, created many millions of years ago as the Islands were being created as well. The toitoises were incredible and they made a very strange breathing/warning sound as you got close! (For some reason they don't like you riding on their back!?)

We had a walk to a place called Las Grietas, where salt water mixes with river water to create its own unique eco system. The walk to this was also great as we passed salt lakes and crossed some pretty tricky volcanic terrain!

We have also done another day boat tour which took us to the Isle Plaza and also to Punta Carrion (I think that is right) for some snorkeling. This was a great day as we got to see lots of wildlife and sea life. Including land Iguanas, many types of tropical and native birds including a Nasca Booby and Blue Footed Booby. We saw manta rays and also a wide variety of tropical fish, we just are not too sure of their names! But at one point we were able to snorkel with a shoal of around 500 fish, which was an incredible experience. Isla Plaza also has a large sea lion colony and we were able to get close to sea lions pups and some very big male sea lions.

We have had another trip to Tortuga beach where we were lucky enough to see turtles swimming just off the beach, you could make out their heads and shells poking out of the water, some appeared to be surfing along with the waves.

The weather has continued to be hot and very humid, thankfully we had a bit of rain which did help us cope a little better! We are going to be heading to the Island of Isabella for a couple of days next, this has a larger number of penguins and turtles on it and I think 5 active volcanoes! It will also be good to experience staying on a different Island, as Isabella is slightly more remote!

Anyways, I hope everyone is well and please see some photos attached at the bottom!
Lots of Love to everyone,
John and Kara xxx
