Birds, Bats, Beaches and Buses ...

Hola everyone,

We hope everyone is doing great!

Since the last entry we have been busy doing something everyday!!
Kara managed to fulfil one of her dreams when she galloped on a horse across the beach! This was both a thrilling experience whilst also being quite scary. Kara's horse in particular was amazingly fast and chomping at the bit to go supersonic. Kara was like a jockey and looked as though she was a pro as she handled her horse with such grace! Me on the other hand grimaced and clung onto my horses' rein while we plodded along in the waves. Though I think I managed what is called a trot in the business!  (not true John gallloped I saw him!)

The next day we then left the Caribbean cost and made our way up to the mountains of Monteverde, about 4 hours north of San Jose. Monteverde is a Cloud Forest which is home to many species of birds, monkeys, frogs, snakes, sloths, tarantulas and anything else you can think of in a jungle like forest!
It was a truly magical place and we were lucky to see all of the listed above and a highlight for sure was being able to see a rare bird called a Quetzal (both male and female) of which there is only around 300 in Monteverde and the surrounding area! They were beautiful birds and our guide was amazing to recognise the calls of the birds while also locate them in what looks like just loads of trees!!

We did a night tour which was like combining the Blair Witch Project with a wildlife hunt! A truly bizarre experience wandering through a jungle in pitch black with only a dull torch to guide you! The scariest thing was the look on Kara's face as the bugs (which are pretty big) flew close to her head!

To keep it short we are now back on the Pacific coast in a tiny place called Montezuma, after a ferry ride from Puntarenas. The weather is hot and humid and the waves are huge! We opted for a taxi ride from the ferry, which was a scary experience as he talked on his phone going along single lane dirt tracks around blind bends fast, more like a rally trip!

Anyways please post any comments!
Muchos Love to you all,

John and Kara xxxx
