Back in Santiago

Hello there,

We were planning to be in Lake Titicaca, Peru by now and on our way up through Peru to Ecuador. However plans have changed as we had our bag stolen on the bus. We therefore have had to leg it down to Santiago to get all the bits and bobs sorted like getting an emergency passport and contacting banks, booking new flights etc.

The bus ride was epic, about 30 hours from Arica, North Chile and at some points it felt never ending! Kids crying, no food and definately no sleep. So we spent all in all about 50 hours out of the 72 on some type of bus!

The Embassy have been really nice but it does make you think that no matter what the films portray when this sort of thing happens ultimately you are on your own. It´s just as well we have a very supportive and efficient family! Also makes you think why do we have borders anyway, we are all humans living on one planet blah blah blah!! We´ll get off our soap box now.

Anyway the good news is that´s it for long distance bus rides for a while (I don´t think we would survive another, mentally or physically!!!) as we have booked an extremely expensive flight from here to Quito, Ecuador, ahhh the luxury.

Unfortunately no photos as our camera was in the bag. Hope you´re all good.

Love John and Kara xx

p.s. John has become like Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now, constantly in the darkness of the dorm room, talking gibberish ´the horror, the horror´. I have thought of putting him out of his misery, but John does say he will pull through. Maybe once back in the UK. It´s scary though as we are relying on John being able to function at some basic level to pay for things as we only have his bank cards now.
